National park Krka – Pure nature

National park Krka was declared to be a national park in 1985. It is named after the river Krka and situated 10 km distance from Šibenik. It is known for its lakes and waterfalls of exquisite beauty. You can visit Krka trough entire year period and you can choose your own style of sightseeing. Certainly one of the most interesting way of exploring are a boat excursions. Visit the Monastery Krka, forts Nečven and Troselj, Roski fall and many more interesting things which beautiful Krka offers. Skradinski buk is certainly the most visited waterfall of the river Krka. Pours over 17 steps, 800 meters long, you have several viewpoints where from you can admire the unique landscape of the heavenly beauty. Magical paths and wooden bridges will remain engraved to your memory for life. Roski waterfall cascading down, like a necklace as it is popularly called among local population and in the middle you can see small islets with exceptional beauty. Its beauty lies in the distinctive and rich vegetation and is habitat for many plants and animal species. Besides the seven beautiful waterfalls, we advise you to visit ethnic villages, which will introduce you closely to the traditions of this Croatian region. Reconstructed water-mill, weaving, preparing food, all presented in the way that visitors can experience the spirit of time.

Small island of Visovac – untouched pearl 

Within the park you can find the remains of numerous forts, churches, of which we definitely recommend visiting the island Visovac, where you can see Franciscan monastery with a rich national treasury. According to the legend, the Franciscans built the monastery in the 15th century, later demolished and rebuilt again in the 18th century. Monastery is famous for its well-preserved artefacts and the library. Coming to the island of Visovac you can easily imagine how do the place of the fairy tales look like.

Besides the natural beauties national park Krka has, we must mention some of the cultural curiosities. Among other we need to mention Burnum, only remaining Roman military amphitheater in Croatia, recently very popular for its ''Burnumske ide''. Burnumske ide will be held on 13th of August, so we advice you as a tourist to enjoy the play which in rather interesting way shows how did the Roman emperor lived, gladiators struggled with various jugglers and dancers to fullfill your experience. Burnum amphitheater belongs to the National park Krka, but visiting the amphitheatre will not be charged to the ticket of entrance, it is totally free so i believe this would gather even more visitor to this enjoyable show.

An old legend says that stars swim in the river of Krka, in the place where sun emerge, and shining moon dance on the loving waves in the golden twilight.
